There are endless ways Spirit can influence our environment when we ask for help and quite a few ways we can ourselves as well. When we ask them for help, we never know how that help will come. We don't know what it will look like or what to expect. As my Grandma Marian used to say, "Ask for help, then dig your ditches and wait for the rain." She was using an old analogy to farming and needing rain for crops to explain that having belief and working the preparation are part of the process to being deserving and receiving intervention.
In December of 2001, I was driving my then husband, my son Andy and myself back home from Boulder Colorado to Exeter California after a job interview. Then something incredible happened. I was really amazed at what Spirit did for me. It was such a grand gesture even for them!
I was driving from about 8 PM until the next morning after we switched places when he got sleepy. We had left Boulder Colorado, and he drove until it was getting dark and then I drove the rest of the way. Parts of the highway were hundreds of miles of narrow two-lane roads that had sharp curves and steep slopes going up and down around cliffs and rock formations and even lakes at times. There were no guard rails or streetlights or even reflectors on the road for much of the isolated part of the drive which made it really scary and dangerous.
Hundreds of miles of blackness where it would be easy to miss a turn or fall off a cliff if one wasn't watching with 100% of your attention every second. I couldn’t even tell if I was climbing at a sharp incline of going down a steep hill at times because it was pitch black and I could only see as far as my headlights went.
I didn't normally ever stay up all night so it was really hard for me, but I did most of the work for our family so I was used to having to do more than I should have had to do. My husband was sleeping in the passenger seat, and my son Andy was sleeping in the back seat. We were in a rental car as I drove with headphones on of my favorite rock music to help me stay alert.
Since I was a little girl, I was taught to pray for protection and intervention if I ever needed it. It was a scary drive as I described in my journal, so I was praying in my mind as I was thrown into this total darkness with no way of knowing what was just ahead.
When I started seeing the lights, one by one, each one was seen up high and then they zoomed down in front of where I would eventually be and just hovered above the ground for 10 or twenty minutes. This way I could see the direction of the road ahead. Long enough to get me through another valley or around another mountainside.
As I got close to the light ahead, it would just fade and go out until the next one appeared way up ahead, so I'd know if I was going up a steep hill or curving through a twisting section along cliffs or winding around a lake or such.
Once I recognized I was in the Victorville area, I knew the rest of the way home. Since I didn't need their help anymore, I said my thanks as they waved their goodbyes and returned to the other side.
